The eye make-up, was mainly using silver and when I used some glittery eye liner, it really enhanced the colour. I also used some false eye lashes to create a better finish and really open up the eyes.

Jess’s lips were finished off with MAC’s “Ruby Woo” ( a red lipstick ). This created a really strong finish, which in fact worked much better than using a pale lip stick.

To achieve the party hair style that I wanted, I placed some product in to the hair scrunching it as I went and spraying it to give a messy effect. I then placed a really prity hair band on Jess, pulling the hair back off of her face and roughly pinning it up for this messy contemporary feel. The finished look with the hair and make-up together looked incredible!

I very quickly created one more style, by twisting the hair at the front in to a quiff. The rest of the hair was then twisted up at the back, to make a pleate. I really wanted the feel of this style to be “messy” – not one which was very neat and precise which kept it young and contemorary.

I think this hair style again worked brilliantly with the make-up and could certainly be worn to any party or special event. The video should be ready shortly, so please watch the web site for exciting viewing!

Vintage day 2

Jess was my model for the day and i soon got started on a fairly simple but contemporary curly look, easily created with a couple of sets of heated rollers and clipping one side back, to finish. I thought it would be really appropriate to do a fab smokey eye make-up, to go with the hair style.

The second hair style, was a simple side bun, i pinned in the curls and placed a few sparkly pins to enhance the style. A small curly fringe section was secured at the front to give the style an up to the minute party look.

The next hair style, was similar to the previous, but I simply plaited the front section to demonstrate a different way in which the hair could be finished. I also changed the make-up and did an up dated look but based on a vintage theme, which worked brilliantly with the hair.

Over all, I was thrilled with the out come of Mondays filming and can’t wait for the film to go live so you can all see my collection of party looks. Watch this space!

Vintage day 1

I didn’t have a great deal of time to think about the look that I was going to create for Karen, but doing the vintage make-up course with Jemma Kidd in the summer, made all the difference at really creating the 30′s feel that I wanted.

Having received a picture of Karen before hand, I discussed with her how i felt the hair should look and began to achieve this hair style by tonging and then pin curling the whole head.

Once I had done that, I worked on Karen’s make-up to really create a traditional 30′s vintage feel. I used silver on her eyes and the eye liner was shaped in a typical “bananna” shape as was fashionably done at that time. Using a few single false eye lashes, I placed those in the center of the upper lashes just to create a more “rounded” shape. When doing the eye brows, I also drew those in a rounded shape to achieve the same look.

After I had done Karen’s foundation and blusher, I then worked on the lips using a great lipstick from MAC called Ruby Woo. I over assentuated the lip line which was often done at that time to achieve a much more rounded lip shape.

I finished the make-up off by lightly dusting the center of the face with some loose powder to take a way any shine.

To complete the hair style and having taken out the pin curls, I gently combed the hair which then created gentle waves. The ends of the hair were left a little curly, which was again typical of this era – different to the 20′s which was styled flatter and closer to the head.

Karen’s completed 30′s hair and make-up looked absolutly amazing and when she had her dress on too, she really could have been transported forward from that time.

I absolutly loved doing this particular hair and make-up look, It really was great fun and I really hope as there is a definite vintage theme going on at the moment, that I soon get the chance to do a similar thing.

I will definitely be doing other courses with the Sassoon school as I came away feeling very motivated and inspired for hairdressing.

Vidal Sassoon

Practicing on each other, our first day worked using very neutral colours. We focused on contouring and how important this technique was on the final and finished result. Contouring is the opposite to highlighting. It is the hollowing out or pushing back of specific areas, creating more definition.

The second day, we had some amazing models in to practice on. Ginni demonstrated various looks and went on to work with some wonderful bronze shades. She then duplicated this particular finish on a young model who came along. This up and coming singer came with her promoter and was trying out for some test shots for the front cover of her new C D . It was a brilliant opportunity to see how things came together, for this type of work.

The morning of the third day, we tried out some fab red carpet finishes. The molten silver eye colour that was used, had an amazing finish using some glitter eye liner.

Ginni had envited my self and Lisa to assist her on a job that afternoon. The shop, just off of Regent street were launching their new seasons line of clothing and Ginni was hired to make-up their models. When we arrived, the shops alarms were blaring and people were scurring around to try and turn them off prior to the T.V. crews arriving. Ginni hurridly began work and turned the girls into amazing cat walk models giving them strong smokey eyes and pale skin. She whipped the hair into place and they were ready. The evening was a success, the girls glided around and looked georgeous.

Well, it really had been a great 3 days and i realised that not only had I learnt a lot, but I had now made some fantastic connections. I hoped it wouldn’t be too long before doing my next course with Ginni.
